Equality & NIxburg News
Jennifer Williamson
Life seems to be very busy right now, and it shows in the traffic on our tiny county road as drivers are speeding at high speeds as if time is running out and that somehow doing 60 in a residential area will make a major difference in their lives, even though it will only get them there a millisecond faster than driving the actual speed limit.
Not sure even a minute saved in driving time on our road is worth the damage they do to the road surface, to the animals that run onto the road, or to the residents’ feelings of safety and security. But speed seems to be the only thing they care about – drive fast, fast as they can, with no thoughts of anyone, not even themselves, because one day their speed will cost them, one way or another.
With my full-time job, running the store open now on summer hours, the farm chores, and all these weekend storms I have not been able to accomplish much of anything. So, the water department meter readings will have to wait another month before I get the fence adjusted so they don’t have to enter the gate and get greeted by a flock of turkeys and a few geese.
This month’s Neighborhood Watch meeting will be the fourth Thursday, April 24, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Equality Volunteer Fire Department Lodge building on Highway 9. If you missed last month’s meeting, we had a wonderful dinner prepared by Dave Dial and the team, which included tacos and spaghetti. This month there will be another fine dinner I am sure, as well as the sheriff’s report, EVFD report and local announcements, as well as plenty of fellowship with our community residents.
Once again, the EVFD will be selling butts/ribs for Memorial Day weekend in May. More details to come, but please let Susan Selman know if you would like to reserve yours. EVFD has sold out the last few years, and as you know, it’s really good! Thanks for your continued support.
Coosa County Live has no events tonight. There will be a live performance on Friday, April 25, from the band Wasted Time.
They’re band members from Alexander City area and trying to get some exposure and requested to perform this month. The guitarist, Cane, was part of the house band when he was in high school, and the lead singer, Stevie, was also part of the house band, as well as hosted a Halloween karaoke night a few years ago. She is full of energy and loves to sing.
So come out and enjoy some live music as it may be the last performance for the foreseeable future.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
