I think everyone will agree that August this year will break records for high temperatures. While we get an occasional rain, it is mostly dry and hot!
I’m glad that I have great air conditioning in my house, but the power bill is no fun to receive. Oh well, one is a trade-off for the other, and I certainly would rather have AC than a lower power bill.
Union Baptist Church had a well-attended homecoming last Sunday. Everyone said it was great music, preaching and food.
Don’t forget the Richville Volunteer Fire Department Bingo tomorrow night, August 22, starting at 6:30 p.m. Also, this is the last bingo until after football season, so make your plans to be there. They serve concessions, also, and usually have a cake or two to auction off.
Also, be sure and get your name on the list for those delicious Boston butts. They usually sell all they are going to cook ahead of time. They are only $35 each and well worth it.
Pickup will be Saturday morning, September 5, from 7 to 9 a.m. See any member of the fire department to place your order, or contact me and I will see that you are added to the list.
Providence Baptist Church is getting ready for its 3rd Annual Bass Tournament on September 19. Registration that day begins at 4 a.m. with put-in at safe daylight at Barrett’s Landing on Lake Mitchell. You may pre-register by mail by September 10 by mailing a check payable to the church (P.O. Box 65; Rockford, AL 35136) or by scanning the QR code of the flyers.
Entry fee is $110 per boat, which includes big fish payout. Guaranteed $1,000 first place. Payout will be 1-in-7 after 10 boats (all proceeds to be paid out in winnings). Weigh-in is at 2 p.m. Call Wayne Ward at 334-467-7660 with any questions.
This week my Bible verse is about uncertainty in life. We never know what tomorrow brings our way, so we have to be ready for whatever happens in our life. God doesn’t promise us a life without struggle, only to be there for us during those times.
Philippians 4:12-13 reads, “I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”
We don’t have to depend on external circumstances to have true inner peace. Paul had experienced both hardship and comfort. But he knew the secret to contentment is trust and belief in God no matter the circumstances.
Christ gives us the power to handle anything that comes our way. We just have to remember that nothing is everlasting except our faith. We just need to trust in the Lord for true peace in any circumstance.
Pray for the Ronald Tison Sr. family, as well as others that have lost loved ones in our community or that are ill. Remember the shut-ins in our community, as well. They don’t just need our prayers, but can benefit from visits, also, even if it’s just a phone call.
