Quiet in the community
I have nothing to share. I have tried to think of community news, asked, eavesdropped, but nothing. Folks are still adjusting to school being back in session, and weather is still steamy hot.
My son is in-between jobs and has come down to help me with my full workload at the farmhouse. I truly appreciate his help, but hope a new opportunity comes to him soon. He isn’t hurting too much financially, but does have a wedding date for next year so there will be future needs he should be preparing for.
Rodger has been helping our daughter move again, as well as caring for our new granddaughter. Grandson is back in school. So life is just full of the usual busy stuff, even with the store being slow.
Just the same old, same old – wake up, walk with my neighbor, go to work, work my day, then open the store, head home after the store closes, feed animals, eat dinner, and go to bed to start it all over again the next day. The only differences are Monday evening’s quilt group and fourth Thursday Neighborhood Watch meetings.
I dream of retiring. I have a few years to go, but being this close seems so far away, and the anticipation is hard.
First Saturday is just around the corner. Come support the Equality Volunteer Fire Department’s fundraiser, as well as some community fellowship. Breakfast is at 8 a.m. for a donation, with plate lunches starting at 11. Bake sale and rummage sale all day.
Community activities that are available in Equality and Nixburg area:
- The Equality quilting group meets every Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jenny’s General Store. We do more than quilt; some embroider, crochet and other needle arts. And yes, we still meet every week!
- Kendrick Memorial Baptist Church’s yard sale is held most Saturdays starting at 8 a.m. Address is 5152 Alabama Highway 9 in Nixburg.
- Elaine Rutledge of Nixburg hosts Rummikub at the Alexander City Senior Center in the Sportplex every Friday starting at 10 a.m.
