A third arrest has been made in connection to the fatal shooting of 23-year-old Malik Holtzclaw that occurred in Goodwater on May 5.
Sheriff Michael Howell reported that on May 5, Goodwater Police Department contacted the Sheriff’s Office regarding a person being shot in Goodwater and requesting assistance. Howell said they began investigating the death of Malik Holtzclaw, who was killed after multiple shots were reportedly fired on Highland Street.
Holtzclaw was transported to Russell Medical Center, but died from a gunshot wound he sustained that night.
As reported last month, two men had been arrested in connection with that case, with both being charged with manslaughter. Those men were 27-year-old Erskin Demetrius McKinney Jr. and 27-year-old Kendarius Lashun Hale-Youngblood.
Howell reported that a third arrest was made in the case, with 22-year-old Joshua Mitchell of Sylacauga being arrested on May 10. All three men were charged with manslaughter.
McKinney’s bond was set at $100,000, and he was arrested and released on bond the same day, May 6.
Hale-Youngblood’s bond was set at $25,000. He was arrested on May 6 and was released on bond May 20.
Mitchell’s bond was set at $100,000, and he was arrested and released on bond the same day, May 10.
