Maurice Mercer for Congress: Community first, country forward

Maurice Mercer is running for the United States Congress to bring experienced, accessible, community-first leadership to Alabama’s 6th Congressional District.
A longtime Pelham resident, husband, father, coach, small business owner, and community leader, Mercer served more than 12 years on the Pelham City Council, including five years as Council President. Elected three times at-large, he built a record of working with people across political and community lines to strengthen public safety, support quality schools, invest in infrastructure, encourage responsible economic growth, and maintain strong fiscal management.
Now, Mercer is ready to take that same common sense leadership to Washington.
“I’m running for Congress because working families deserve a representative who understands the challenges they face and will show up, listen and fight for them,” Mercer said. “People are concerned about the war in Iran, the rising costs of groceries, gas, housing, healthcare, and raising a family. Washington needs leaders focused on solving those problems and not creating more division.”
Mercer’s unique background brings together public service, business and a commitment to working people. He has owned a small business, worked in the private sector, worked as a union organizer, and spent years serving his community through coaching and non-profit boards like Community of Hope Health Clinic, Arc of Shelby County and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.
He understands the challenges facing small businesses, working families, seniors, veterans, and communities that too often feel forgotten by Washington.
In Congress, Mercer will work to lower costs for families, expand access to affordable healthcare, strengthen public education and workforce development, support small businesses, protect Social Security and Medicare, stand with veterans and first responders, and help create an economy where working Americans have a real opportunity to succeed.
“My campaign is about putting people over politics and moving our country forward,” Mercer said. “It’s time for Congress to work together on bipartisan bills and move our country forward. I believe public service should be about serving people, and I believe Alabama deserves a Congressman who will be present, accessible and accountable.”
Mercer has also verbally committed to hosting 12 town halls over the first 2-year term to back his statements.
Maurice Mercer is asking voters across Alabama’s 6th Congressional District for their support in the Democratic Special Primary Election on August 11. The 6th Congressional District includes Autauga, Bibb, Chilton, Coosa, Elmore, Jefferson, Shelby, and Talladega counties.
