The recent annual Battle of the Brave softball tournament proved to be a success once again, raising money to help Coosa County youth have a happy Christmas season.
The tournament saw first responders battling it out on the ball field, with law enforcement taking on volunteer fire fighters and EMS. Ultimately the volunteer fire departments claimed the victory after winning two games, earning bragging rights and taking home the championship trophy.
Sheriff Michael Howell and the Sheriff’s Office thank everyone who supported the event, whether through playing, volunteering, donating, working behind the scenes, or cheering from the stands.
Howell said the event was “very successful.” All proceeds from the annual softball tournament go toward Coosa’s Shop with the Sheriff program.
Each Christmas, Howell takes some Coosa County children from lower-income families shopping for gifts, helping to make the holiday season a bit brighter for them and their families.
Howell expressed that the generosity of others helps make it possible each year. The recent softball tournament raised $792 for the cause.
Last year the Sheriff’s Office was able to help 32 Coosa County children through Shop with the Sheriff, a new record for the county. Howell said they hope to help even more children this year and continue to break records.
“We appreciate the support from everyone who donated and from the volunteer fire departments for participating,” Howell said. “We had fun, but it was also for a good cause.”
Anyone who would like to donate toward this year’s Shop with the Sheriff fund can do so by visiting the Sheriff’s Office in Rockford anytime this year and making a donation.
