With preparations underway for the start of a new school year comes United Way’s annual Day of Action, a time to give back while helping schools prepare to welcome students once again.
The Lake Martin Area United Way has announced that its Day of Action for Coosa County will be held next Friday, July 24, at Central Elementary School Coosa County. Volunteers are welcome to come together as a community from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. to help prepare the elementary building for the first day of school with some fresh paint and cleaning, as well as pressure washing, the agency hopes.
There is both inside and outside work to be done, giving volunteers options for where and how they would like to help. Projects planned for Central Elementary include pressure washing, painting hallways, general cleaning and disinfecting, and general outside campus cleanup.
Lake Martin Area United Way is also in need of pressure washers or pressure washing companies to help. For more information, contact the office at 256-329-3600.
United Way encourages area residents to “come together to make the school a welcoming space where students can learn, grow and succeed.”
Individuals, families, businesses, church groups, and organizations, as well as students wanting to earn community service hours, are encouraged to sign up to volunteer for the Day of Action. Those interested can sign up online at www.unitedwaylakemartin.org/day-action, or call the United Way office for more information.
For those who cannot volunteer but would still like to help, United Way appreciates monetary donations of any amount to help offset the costs of supplies for Day of Action, summer enrichment and other projects.
The agency is also seeking and appreciates any donations of water, Gatorade, snacks, cleaning and painting supplies, and donated pressure washing services.
Contact Courtney Layfield at 256-329-3600 or director@unitedwaylakemartin.org for more information on making a donation.
Prior to Coosa’s, the local United Way also held a Day of Action on June 26 for Reeltown and Stephens elementary schools in Tallapoosa County.
