Two men were arrested last Tuesday in connection to a trailer theft from the Kellyton community that occurred late last month.
Chief Deputy Scott Hammond reported that on June 30, deputies responded to the Kellyton area in regards to an 18-foot trailer being stolen from the victim’s residence.
Area camera footage was obtained and reviewed of individuals on the victim’s property. Hammond said that one person was identified in the footage, and a suspicious vehicle was caught on camera in the Kellyton area.
At the time the investigation was still ongoing, the Sheriff’s Office received a call from an individual in the Alexander City area who saw a trailer with a Coosa County tag behind two abandoned houses.
Hammond reported that further investigation led to identifying the trailer as being the one stolen from Kellyton.
Investigators went to talk to the two suspects and found that one suspect had a game camera that was also stolen from the victim.
He had removed the SIM card and deleted photos of himself, but the SIM card still had photos of the other suspect on the victim’s property.
Ultimately, on July 7, 52-year-old Christopher Mark Blackwell of Alexander City was arrested and charged with first-degree theft of property and tampering with physical evidence.
Also, the same day, 46-year-old Jason Allen Coker of Kellyton was arrested and charged with first-degree theft of property.
First-degree theft of property is a Class B felony and involves property valued at more than $2,500.
Blackwell’s total bond was set at $17,500, and Coker’s bond was set at $15,000. As of press time both remained in custody at the Coosa County Jail awaiting trial.
Anyone who suspects or observes illegal activity is encouraged to report it to the Coosa County Sheriff’s Office at 256-377-4922 or online at www.coosacountyso.org. Anonymous tips are also welcome.
