The Buzz
Buzzy the Buzzard
Ah, I read somewhere recently that rural community ties are an antidote to loneliness. So true, and I read it in the News. People read this paper. And call me old fashioned, but a newspaper is one of the ties that bind.
Rural life is different from urban life. We use the internet, but things don’t always happen on pace with the internet. We use smart phones, but primarily to make phone calls – not do our banking, business research, etc. We use social media to keep up with friends and family that have had to move away. We also get valuable information from conversations at the local cafe and actual visits to the bank, post office and courthouse.
More than half of Alabama is rural, and half the counties have only one newspaper. I wish I could concentrate all of this diffused power. I just want the Legislature to know that small town papers need support, of any and all kinds.
Fans, talk to your representatives. Tell them how much we need print public notices, along with other support.
Love,
Buzzy
