Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
It’s the last weekend in March and the end of Spring Break time for schools! Teachers, students and staff will all report back to school on Monday, March 31. So, watch for those big yellow buses back on the road.
Exciting things are being planned for the Richville Volunteer Fire Department and Neighborhood Watch Spring Fling on April 5 from 4 to 6 p.m., followed by Bingo at 6:30. There will be something for everyone so bring the family for an afternoon of fun and games.
They need donations of cakes and baked goods for the cake walk and new toys for the toy walk. They will also be selling concessions. Please contact someone in the fire department or Neighborhood Watch if you can donate. Or you can always contact me at the number and email address at the end of the column.
This Wednesday, April 2, is the last day to drop off your taxes to be prepared at Rockford Methodist Church Fellowship Hall from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Then on April 9 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., it will be pickups only.
The Historical Society will be opening the Old Rock Jail beginning April 6 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. We will be closed on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, the months of July and August, then reopen the weekend after Labor Day in September until the end of October. Admission is $3 per person, with children under 12 free.
I want to thank the volunteers who came last Saturday and cleaned. They did a great job! Also, we need volunteers to help staff it on Sundays. You must be a member of the Historical Society; dues are $15 per year with extra $5 if you want newsletters mailed to you. You can send a check to the Coosa County Historical Society; P.O. Box 5; Rockford, AL 35136.
This is the last week for Bible verses about change. Joshua 1:9 reads, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
This verse says God doesn’t change! On Facebook this week I read a quote that was posted by two or three different people. I want to share it with you. “An umbrella cannot stop the rain, but allows us to stand in the rain. Faith in God may not remove our trials, but it gives us strength to overcome them.”
I think that fits with Joshua 1:9. God is with us no matter what we encounter. We have to have faith to know that in order to get us over the difficulties in life.
Christians are not promised a bed of roses, with no trials or temptations. But knowing we have God to depend on gets us through these times. Then we can rejoice with Him in the good and beautiful times in our lives. Praise God no matter the circumstances!
Be in prayer for all those that are sick in our community. But also, think about giving someone a call just to say hello; it will make a difference in their day. Many times, when we go out to spread blessings to others, it’s us that gets the blessing.
