I made more updates to appease the homeowner’s insurance company, but went even further since it just made sense. Like renting a lift, two days is the same as seven days, so why not get more done?
So all the old aluminum siding is down, and the original wood siding has been repaired and painted. Handrails on the back porch, including the ramp we added for my senior dog that has since passed away. We are leaving the ramp because we find it an easy way to get large items in the house, plus one day Rodger may need it as his back continues to deteriorate.
I have also been working in the yard. Over the years the landscaping of surrounding properties has changed, thus changing the way the water sheds. This change in water shed has been causing erosion on our property, especially during heavy rains. So, I need to make changes to my landscaping to mitigate the erosion and add other benefits.
First is a planting bed in the front next to the driveway that will be pollinator flowers that will absorb and hold more water. Rounding the edges around the bed and magnolia tree will also make it easier to mow around.
Part of that will be moving a section of the picket fence around the water meter so the guys can just drive up and read the meter and not have to enter the gate and have to deal with flocks of geese, turkeys, chickens, and guinea fowl.
Spring is here, and Coosa Fancy Organic Farm is open for its 2025 spring CSA. CSA stands for “Community Supported Agriculture.” This system offers customers the opportunity to support their local farms and producers via an initial buy-in price, which is then returned through weekly shares of fresh produce. This helps the farm by providing the initial capital needed for operation costs.
In the early Spring, members can expect plenty of nourishing fresh lettuces, leafy greens (such as arugula, their popular Asian greens mix and kale), harukei turnips, different varieties of radishes, carrots, and broccolini. As the season continues, you can begin to expect to see foods such as their super popular sashimi cucumbers, cherry and heirloom tomatoes and more!
Help support Coosa Fancy and enjoy 10 weeks of freshly harvested, organically grown seasonal produce! Spring 2025 Season begins April 5.
Coosa County Live will continue with some events such as Open Mic Night, but performers are unwilling to book as the attendance has been dismal at best. Karaoke may go away since the latest attendance has been a lovely young couple who wished others had joined in.
Open Mic is next Friday, March 14, from 7–9 p.m., and the house band Vintage Vibe will be playing whether you show up or not. While it is not mandatory, you are encouraged to bring a dish of shareable food for our “Potluck,” and if you can afford to drop something into the donation jar for the music, it helps keep the lights on. Coosa Live provides free coffee, iced tea, water, and fresh-popped popcorn, as well as some of the potluck offerings.
