The Buzz
Buzzy the Buzzard
I think it is pretty plain that I have been asking for support for the APA-sponsored bills, SR 149 and HB 320, that would preserve print publication of legal notices. If it isn’t obvious, small town newspapers depend on these for financial support.
I have found out that “The Coosa County News” is not alone. There are 32 counties in Alabama – NEARLY HALF THE STATE – that only have one newspaper. They are rural counties, full of older people, less connected people, but not half the state’s population. I know that Alabama’s government was designed to keep the power on goat hill and not in the rural areas.
But these are communities, dependent on community journalism. Your communities. Your mamas’ and daddies’ communities. Your districts, your voters.
I wish there was a way to get the 31 other papers to contact their representatives on this issue. Maybe I will figure it out next week.
Your eye in the sky,
Buzzy
Editor’s note: Readers can submit “Letters to Buzzy” and “Ask Buzzy” via mail to The Coosa County News; P.O. Box 99; Rockford, AL 35136; or via email to christa@thecoosacountynews.com. Any correspondence received will be promptly passed along to Coosa County’s favorite buzzard.
