Special to the News
Rain was unable to stop the Annual Chlora K. May Walk-A-Thon 5K Challenge on May 30.
The event started at 8 a.m., with friends and family cheering the walkers. The 5K challenged the walkers with rain, humidity, twist, turns, and hills, but was no match for the top three winners.
Coming in first place was Isaiah Stamps, second place went to Micah Stamps, and the third place winner was Shamaria Borden.
The Walk-A-Thon, an annual event for the J. D. Thompson Alumni Association, was planned by Mrs. May, chairperson, and Co-Chairs Sheryl Borden and JoAnn Shealey.
The Fun Run was a healthy event for all age groups to enjoy. The historic school building was open for tours, “DJ” Tucker kept the music flowing, and there was line dancing. Young Kelsie Sims also showed us her dance moves, outlasting the adults.
There was fellowship, joy, laughter, vendors, food, lots of school day stories, and Mrs. May, the forever teacher, sharing words of wisdom.
The Walk-A-Thon committee and the J. D. Thompson Alumni members would like to thank the Coosa County 2026 sponsors, our volunteers and the community for their support of this event.
