As families across the county watched their children return to school yesterday, many volunteers came together at the end of summer to help prepare one of the schools for the year ahead.
On Friday, July 24, the Lake Martin Area United Way held its annual Day of Action, this year focusing on Central Elementary School Coosa County.
The local United Way agency was pleased with the “incredible day” spent at the school, with 55 volunteers giving their time and resources to show support for the school and community.
The volunteers from all walks of life made a team effort and put in the work, painting hallways, cleaning walls and restrooms, pressure washing, and completing other projects to help refresh the elementary school and get it ready for the new school year ahead.
United Way noted that “every hour volunteered and every helping hand made a lasting difference,” adding, “You didn’t just complete projects; you invested in students. You supported educators. You strengthened our community.”
In addition to thanking all the volunteers who put in time for the cause, United Way also thanks its generous sponsors helping making the 2026 Day of Action a success for the school, students and community at large.
Sponsors were the Martin Luther King Jr. Committee of Alexander City, Alabama Paper & Supply, Home Depot of Alexander City, Russell Do It Center of Alexander City, Guardian Credit Union, and The Learning Tree.
Alabama ONE Credit Union was pleased to report that team members Sara Strickland and Jordan Eason proudly volunteered for the CES Day of Action.
“We are grateful for opportunities to serve our communities and make a lasting impact,” Alabama ONE stated, with branches in Goodwater and Rockford.
Additionally, Empowered to Conquer joined in helping prepare the school through the Day of Action to “help create a welcoming environment before students return for the new school year.” The organization recognized Limitless Program Coordinator Ashley for stepping in and taking the opportunity to volunteer for Day of Action.
Empowered to Conquer stated, “A fresh coat of paint and a little extra care can go a long way in helping students feel excited and valued as they walk through the doors. We’re grateful to partner with organizations that share our heart for investing in students and strengthening our communities.”
Staff returned to the schools Monday for in-service and work days, and students had their first day back to school yesterday.
