As they prepared for a new school year, on Monday staff attended in-service. Superintendent of Education David Stover Jr. kicked off the new school year by welcoming staff back, reminding the staff of all the things they should be proud of and provided updates on the new projects such as the construction of the dual band room and community storm shelter, as well as programs such as peer helpers and wrestling.
Other school leadership shared information on their respective areas such as special education presented by Wanda Young and special programs presented by assistant superintendent Adam Hopper.
Multiple agencies were also on hand to provide staff with support and information, including Value Teachers presented by Todd Wingard, United Way presented by Courtney Layfield and the Coosa County Sheriff’s Office presented by School Resource Officer Trenton Davenport and Sheriff Michael Howell.
A special thank you to AEA representative Mercy Pilkington for providing breakfast for our staff, Curriculum Associates for providing lunch deliciously prepared by Ed’s Deli in Goodwater, and Scoops on Wheels ice cream cones were courtesy of Alabama One credit union in Goodwater and Rockford.
It was a great day of fellowship and knowledge building among the staff.
On Tuesday, staff welcomed students and families to orientations with principals Forbus and Lee covering policies and procedures. Students picked up schedules, were issued lockers and visited their classrooms.
Everyone is excited about the upcoming school year after a summer of rest and relaxation. Students had their first day of instruction Thursday as the paper went to print.
