Equality & Nixburg News
Jennifer Williamson
I should spend less time working and more time in the community so I could share stuff with you, but to work less I would be lowering my income, and, in this economy, I really can’t afford that.
But what I do know about what has happened in Equality lately was another Boston Butt and Rib fundraiser for Memorial Day was a success. I can’t, however, give you specific numbers. I just know there was lots of meat being passed out to those that ordered ahead and a wait-list for any extras available at the end of the day.
I sure hope Jenny’s General Store’s roof gets done quickly, because with all this rain we need a new roof. But rest assured, I have someone starting, and the store will have a new galvanized roof on it very soon.
And Jenny’s General has been adding new inventory, such as healthy snack options from plantain crisps to protein bars and meat sticks, as well as healthy drink options including a high protein energy drink that is very popular with many.
Sequel Campbell of 3 Moon Harvest is holding Certified Family Herbalist Classes, one Saturday each month from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with a half-hour break. Those that attend all six courses will receive certification. Class size is small so if interested register and pay $60 course fee.
Community activities that are available that you can support:
- The Equality quilting group meets every Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jenny’s General Store. We do more than quilt; some embroider, crochet and other needle arts. And yes, we still meet every week!
- Kendrick Memorial Baptist Church’s yard sale, held most Saturdays starting at 8 a.m. at 5152 Ala. Hwy. 9.
- Elaine Rutledge of Nixburg hosts Rummikub at the Alexander City Senior Center in the Sportplex every Friday starting at 10 a.m.
- Equality Volunteer Fire Department’s First Saturday fund raising is June 6. Please join the community in supporting our wonderful volunteers.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
