Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
October has arrived! With the end of September, our thoughts turn to changing leaf colors, football and soup.
Happy birthday to all those celebrating this month, including my youngest brother and several great-grands.
While the morning temperatures have been cooler, the afternoons have been more like summer. However, the forecast for next week is for cooler temperatures all day so it should feel more like fall.
The leaves are starting to turn, but seems like more are just turning brown and falling when the wind blows. It’s been so dry, the fall colors may not be very bright this year. Hopefully we will get some rain this weekend then the cooler weather.
Good luck to the Central Cougar football team as they travel to Dadeville for tonight’s game.
Don’t forget the Old Rock Jail will only be open for three more Sundays before it closes until April next year. It is open from 2 to 4. Admission is $3! So, make plans to come check it out.
The Coosa County Historical Society will have its regular quarterly meeting on Sunday, October 25, at the Rockford Senior Center at 2 p.m. This will be a “Show and Tell” so bring your interesting artifacts to show. Mark your calendars.
My Bible verses this week are about being grateful. Second Corinthians 9:6-8 reads, “Remember this: the person who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the person who sows generously will also reap generously. Each person should do as he has decided in his heart – not reluctantly or out of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make every grace overflow to you, so that in every way, always having everything you need, you may excel in every good work.”
These verses start off about giving compared to planting seeds. If you only give a little, you won’t harvest much, so the more you give, the more you harvest.
However, giving is not necessarily all monetary, but the attitude we have towards the giving. We shouldn’t give out of guilt or pressure, but because we want to make others and God happy.
As we move into the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays ahead, we need to remember that while it seems to be a cliché, it is the thought that counts. God gives us all we need, so with our surplus we can help others.
Giving is more than money; it’s also our time and love, as well as our talents. So, take inventory of yourself and plan to give back to God some of what He has richly blessed us with.
Pray for those that have lost loved ones in our community or that are ill. Remember the shut-ins in our community, as well. They don’t just need our prayers, but can benefit from visits, also, even if it’s just a phone call.
Organizations in the area, as well as churches, I need your events! If your family has some news or an event to share, please contact me. I would prefer text 334-414-7147 or email wardgrand6@gmail.com, but phone calls will be fine, too. If you don’t get me when you call, be sure to leave a message.
