J.D. Thompson class of 1971 enjoys a reunion luncheon at LeeBoys Bar-B-Q.

Union Square News

On Saturday, February 28, the class of 1971 of J.D. Thompson High School of Cottage Grove enjoyed a great reunion luncheon celebrating 55 years at the LeeBoys Bar-B-Q restaurant in Rockford, right in the heart of downtown.
The atmosphere was popping, and the food was topping. This year was a little different; however, it was a great reunion luncheon, despite losing a classmate, Pastor Wilbert Johnson, who always attends, just days before the luncheon; and Carrie B. Tuck just months before, who always attended. They were truly missed, but were honored.
Polly A. Golden and I missed being there this year for their class reunion hostess. They love having us as their 1971 class hostesses, and we love being the hostesses for such a lovely class of people, and we love all of you, Faye, Mamie, Joyce, Bennie Mae, Cynthia, Claudie, Larry, Clifford, Julius, Donell, and so sorry I forgot your names for those I didn’t call, but I remember your face. We love you much.
Children’s Corner
My granddaughter was baptized on Sunday, April 12, and I am very happy. She understands what it is all about. Praise God, another one tasted the water.
Funny Corner
For senior women, if you ever need to buy any type of medication, vitamin, etc., please go buy it yourselves instead of sending your husband, or write it down for him. Butch went to buy me some probiotic acidophilus, or probiotic balance for stomach issues (acid). He comes back with Pamprin for menstrual pain relief and cramps.
I laughed, and he got a little upset thinking I made fun of him trying to do something good for me. I said, “Butch, do you know what that is, and do you know how old I am?” I was laughing so hard that it didn’t help the situation, and that made it worse for him, because I told him to let me write it down for him. He said, “No, I am not a child.”
I could not convince him, so I let him go. When he finally realized what was wrong and I was still laughing, his ego was damaged, knowing he should have listened to me (“Let me write it down.”). He sat down upset because he made a mistake.
I told him it was OK, I will go change it, so he laughed, too. I laughed for a long time. I told him, “What goes around, comes around.” He’s always making jokes about me, and I don’t think they are funny. This wasn’t a joke, and it was funny.
He told me he never saw me laugh so hard. I got him real hard with a great “laugh.” Men think they know it all, and women say, “Oh that’s a man thing.” Well, that was a woman thing.
I am still laughing (haha), but not in front of him. I love Butch. He was trying his best to help me.
Happy birthday to Ricky Hanna, Pastor Ivor Smith, Clifford Maxwell, Billy Hill, Randall Lewis, and to all April born.
