Hope everyone had an uneventful April Fool’s Day. I don’t think there is as much participation in pranks and jokes today as it was when I was young.
The origin is not known, but there are different customs in many countries throughout the world. However, they all center around pranking or joking people.
Providence Baptist Church will have its Easter Sunrise service at 6:30 a.m. in the cemetery on the hill behind the church, weather permitting. Doughnuts, coffee and juice will follow in the fellowship hall.
In the more than 50 years we have been having the Sunrise service, we have never had to move to the church building. Sometimes it would rain right before or after, but at the scheduled time it would be okay to hold outside.
A men’s Bible study is held each Thursday night (except the first Thursday) at 6:30 p.m. at the Richville Volunteer Fire Department with a meal at 6 p.m. It is open to all, so men go check it out.
On the second and fourth Thursday night, Providence Baptist Church hosts a craft night to fill Operation Christmas Child boxes. So, if you are interested, come out next week to see what we are doing.
The next Richville Volunteer Fire Department Bingo will be Saturday, April 25, at 6:30 p.m. So come out and support your fire department and have fun doing it. They will also have concessions. So, mark your calendars!
It’s also time to start thinking about those wonderful Boston butts they sell for Memorial Day. So, see any fire department member and get on their list. They usually sell out ahead of time, so get your name on the list.
This Wednesday is the last day that Volunteer Connections of Central Alabama (VCCA) will be in Rockford at the fellowship hall of Rockford Methodist Church. No appointment is necessary.
If you don’t pick up your return that day, you will need to go to the Alexander City office on Highway 280. We will only take drop-offs that day if you can pick-up in the Alexander City office.
This week my Bible verse is about the first Easter. Matthew 28:5-6 reads, “The angel said to the women, ‘Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here! He has risen, just as He said.’”
Wow! What wonderful news emphasizing the eternal hope that is the Christian faith. The women came to the tomb feeling sad and left in joy.
Jesus arose out of that grave meaning that He is alive forevermore. It is a reassurance to us that Christ lives and offers us everlasting life if we believe on Him. As He said reflects that God is faithful and keeps His promises to us, but we have to believe in Him and accept Him into our hearts.
Be in prayer for those that have lost loved ones in our community, as well as those that are ill. Remember the shut-ins in our community, as well. They don’t just need our prayers, but can benefit from visits, also, even if it’s just a phone call.
