Central of Coosa County Varsity Cougars trailed by as many as four, but came back to best Winterboro on Thursday, 9-7.
Winterboro got on the board in the top of the first inning after K. Hall tripled, scoring three runs, and T. Charmon grounded out, scoring one run.
Central of Coosa County Varsity Cougars took the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Hannah Hyatt tripled down the left field line, Reese Lee singled, Henley Jennings walked, Payson Edwards walked, and Alyssa Woodfin walked, each scoring one run.
Central of Coosa County Varsity Cougars added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Jennings was struck by a pitch, and Nina Luke singled up the middle, each scoring one run.
Winterboro tied the game in the top of the third thanks to a hit by a
pitch, a single by M. Tanner, and a single by J. Swain.
Central of Coosa County Varsity Cougars took the lead, 9-7, in the bottom of the third thanks to two walks.
Lillie Kimbrell stepped in the circle first for Central. The starting pitcher allowed four hits and
seven runs over three innings, striking out two and walking 11.
Swain stepped in the circle first for Winterboro. The pitcher allowed nine hits and nine runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking eight.
Tynlee Best and Hyatt each collected two hits for Central. Lee, Kimbrell and Hyatt each drove in one run for Central. Central had patience at the plate, collecting eight walks for the game.
Jennings, Edwards and Kimbrell led the team with two free passes each. Lee, Jennings, Kimbrell, and Henley Stevens each stole multiple bases for Central. Central stole 20 bases in the game.
Central didn’t commit a single error in the field. Woodfin had the most chances in the field with three.
