Equality & Nixburg News
Jennifer Williamson
So a Facebook request in the Equality page has led to a new quilting group for all interested in quilting to gather and learn and grow in all things quilting.
I have held the initial meeting to discuss how and when we should proceed as a group. The request started with a new quilter, but there is interest with intermediate and very well-seasoned quilters.
When details are formalized, I will be sharing more about when and where the gathering will be; I envision a group of ladies who have a passion for quilting and meet to share triumphs and lessons learned, exploring different quilting styles and techniques and possibly sharing resources to offset rising costs of materials. And maybe throw in a once-a-year full day of quilting, like a strip quilt where everyone can complete a quilt top in one day and maybe even pin together top, batting and backing, making it ready to be stitched together.
Maybe it should just be a crafting group as I have also had a couple ladies express a desire to crochet, and I have offered to help them get started. And in exchange I would like them to teach me something new, like knitting.
Rebel Homesteaders of Elmore and Coosa counties are hosting another canning class; I believe it is water bath canning tomatoes. November 14 is the proposed date, and when the time is confirmed I will be sharing that here. Classes are held at the Equality Volunteer Fire Department Hall Lodge building on Highway 9 in downtown Equality.
Please continue to support ongoing activities such as by Kendrick Memorial Baptist Church’s yard sale, held most Saturdays starting at 8 a.m. Address is 5152 Ala. Highway 9 in case you haven’t noticed it driving on Highway 9. Also, Elaine Rutledge of Nixburg hosts Rummikub at the Alexander City Senior Center in the Sportplex every first and third Friday starting at 10 a.m.
Don’t forget that tomorrow, Saturday, October 25, EVFD Bingo will return from 4 to 6 p.m. Lots of fun and prizes with proceeds supporting our wonderful volunteer fire department.
First Saturday is fast approaching and just a week away. Please join in supporting our local volunteer fire department. Baked goods can be donated for the bake sale, and baked goods can be purchased from the bake sale.
Donations for breakfast and/or lunch are appreciated, and browse the rummage sale while socializing with your neighbors from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., all while supporting our Equality Volunteer Fire Department.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
