October 10

CAEC and Central Access will host a benefit fishing tournament with all proceeds going to the CAEC Lineman Scholarship Fund. The fishing tournament will be held Saturday, October 10, on Lake Mitchell at Higgins Ferry from safe daylight until 3 p.m. Guaranteed first prize of $2,500. First through fifth places paid. Registration information will be coming soon. The CAEC Lineman Scholarship Fund provides opportunities for future line workers to join the men and women already serving our communities.

 

October 19

The monthly meeting for the Coosa County Conservation District will be held on Monday, October 19, at 10 a.m. at the District Office, located at 226 Coosa County Road 157 in Hanover.

 

October 25

The Coosa County Historical Society will have its regular quarterly meeting on Sunday, October 25, at the Rockford Senior Center at 2 p.m. This will be a “Show and Tell” so bring your interesting artifacts to show. All are welcome to attend.

 

November 11

A Veterans Day Celebration, sponsored by The Goodwater Disabled Veterans Organization, will be held at 10 a.m. on November 11 at the Goodwater Auditorium, located at 166 Harris Street, Goodwater. Special guest: Central Alabama VA Healthcare System personnel. Resources will be on site for veterans and their families. For more information contact Wade McElrath at 256-749-9100.

 

Weekly

The Goodwater Youth Development and Recreational Center is open to the public weekly on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and practice days for the travel ball team are those same days from 5 to 6 p.m. Cheerleader practice is held on Wednesdays and Fridays. The “Old Rock Jail” in Rockford is once again open for tours each Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. until the end of October. Admission is $3 for adults and free for children under 12. Come enjoy touring the old jail and museum while you can, before it closes for the season at the end of October!

 

Monthly

Richville Neighborhood Watch will be held the first Thursday of each month at the fire department, 13185 Coosa County Rd. 14, Rockford, 35136. The gathering begins with a potluck meal at 6 p.m., and the meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Come out and see what is happening in your community.

Monthly breakfast returns to West Coosa Senior Center! The West Coosa Senior Center in Stewartville will host breakfast on the fourth Saturday of each month from 7-10 a.m. at the center, located at 47 Coosa County Road 70, Sylacauga, 35151 (the old Stewartville School). Breakfast is $8 per plate with choice of ham, bacon, sausage, eggs, gravies, and more! Dine in or call ahead at 256-249-2024 to carry out. Donations appreciated! Breakfast will be served monthly now through October, with it not being held in November or December.
