Equality & Nixburg News
Jennifer Williamson
I took a break from all the renovation work at home and at the store to drive up to Cullman and help my son with some renovations. We are preparing to sell the house there; he is engaged and will likely relocate to Tuscaloosa to be near his fiancé while she finishes her degree in nursing at University of Alabama.
I had hoped they would find Equality as a future home so that when grandbabies arrive, they will be close enough to be a part of my day-to-day life. Maybe after graduation, we will see.
There is not a lot of activity in Equality and Nixburg other than the usual business. I think most folks are busy with school starting, which means football season is upon us, as well. I do not follow sports, not even football, but I know it is the number one priority to a lot of folks.
However, there are the ongoing activities such as Kendrick Memorial Baptist Church’s yard sale, held most Saturdays starting at 8 a.m. Address is 5152 Alabama Highway 9 in case you haven’t noticed it driving on Hwy. 9.
Elaine Rutledge of Nixburg hosts Rummikub at the Alexander City Senior Center in the Sportsplex every first and third Friday starting at 10 a.m.
First Saturday Equality Volunteer Fire Department fundraiser is tomorrow, September 6. Please join in supporting our local volunteer fire department. Baked goods can be purchased from the bake sale. Donations for breakfast and/or lunch are appreciated, and browse the rummage sale while socializing with your neighbors from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., all while supporting our Equality Volunteer Fire Department.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
