August 11

What’s the Buzz? Join us to learn the fundamentals of beekeeping! The Coosa County Extension Office will hold this beekeeping class from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. August 11 at the Goodwater Youth Development Center. For more information call 256-377-4713.

 

August 13

The Alabama Cooperative Extension System is hosting “Right Bite: Diabetes Cooking School” at the I-HOPE Center in Goodwater. This educational series is aimed at individuals with diabetes, but it is open and helpful for everyone. Learn meal planning and cooking methods to reduce calories, control carbs, modify fats, increase fiber, and more! Classes are held from 12 to 1 p.m. on August 13, October 8, November 12, and December 9. The I-HOPE Center is at the old Goodwater School, located at 166 Harris Street.

 

August 14

The Coosa County Extension Office invites first responders and other citizens to join them for a preparedness class for Weather Awareness and Domestic Preparedness. The class will be held Thursday, August 14, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Coosa County Extension Office in Hanover. Lunch will be provided. This class will cover general weather awareness information and foundation plan for keeping home and farm animals safe during times of disaster. First responders – we need your help! Meet the Candidates: The Goodwater Disabled Veterans Organization and the Ministers Alliance are hosting a meet and greet with all candidates running for public office. This includes mayoral candidates and Town Council candidates. This event will be held at the Goodwater Community Center beginning at 6:30 p.m. August 14. Look forward to your candidate expressing their vision for you and the town. Each candidate will be given a 3-5 minute platform. Hearing community leaders’ visions for the future is eagerly anticipated, as well. August 16

Join us on August 16 in Stewartville for an adorable and fun cookie decorating class! It’s for the beginner or those just curious about what cookie decorating is all about! If you have limited experience with sugar cookies and found yourself frustrated with royal icing, this is the class for you. We will do a fun football themed set that tastes amazing and will look even better once you’ve finished decorating! We provide everything you need, including a box to take your awesome creations home, as well as our awesome recipes. Class starts at 10 a.m. and will last about one and a half hours. Class limited to 20 people. Class is good for ages 8 and up. Class costs $50 per person, and you must reserve your seat in advance as space is limited. August 16-17

Millerville Trade Day: Third Saturday Weekend Trade Day at Millerville Community Center will be held Saturday, August 16, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Sunday following from 1-3 p.m. Many items for sale in the school building. Set-up outside to sell your items for free. Food items are available on Saturday. Call 205-317-7798 for additional information.

 

August 18

The next meeting of the Coosa County Conservation District Board will be on Monday, August 18, at 10 a.m. at the District Office, located at 226 Coosa County Road 157, Rockford, 35136. The annual Local Working Group meeting will be held immediately following the Board meeting.

The Rockford Utilities Board will meet at 6 p.m. at the Board Office on Monday, August 18. The Utilities Board is located at 9301 U.S. Hwy. 231, Rockford, near Dollar General. For more information call 256-935-4004.

 

Weekly

The Goodwater Youth Development and Recreational Center is open to the public weekly on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and practice days for the travel ball team are those same days from 5 to 6 p.m. Cheerleader practice is held on Wednesdays and Fridays. Monthly

Richville Neighborhood Watch will be held the first Thursday of each month at the fire department, 13185 Coosa County Rd. 14, Rockford, 35136. The gathering begins with a potluck meal at 6 p.m., and the meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Come out and see what is happening in your community.

Monthly breakfast returns to West Coosa Senior Center! The West Coosa Senior Center in Stewartville will host breakfast on the fourth Saturday of each month from 7-10 a.m. at the center, located at 47 Coosa County Road 70, Sylacauga, 35151 (the old Stewartville School). Breakfast is $8 per plate with choice of ham, bacon, sausage, eggs, gravies, and more! Dine in or call ahead at 256-249-2024 to carry out. Donations appreciated! Breakfast will be served monthly now through October, with it not being held in November or December.

West Coosa Friday Night Dance & Dine will be held the second Friday of each month at the West Coosa Senior Center! Live oldies music by The Misfitz Band, Potluck supper – bring your favorite covered dish to share. Doors open at 5 p.m., and supper starts at 5:15 p.m. Admission is FREE! This is a family friendly event – no alcohol! Friday Night Dance & Dine is proudly sponsored by J&J Pest Away. The senior center is located at 47 Coosa County Road 70, Stewartville, 35151.

 

Quarterly

The Hanover Community Club and Neighborhood Watch will now hold quarterly gatherings at Andrews Chapel. These quarterly gatherings are held on the third Tuesday of March, June, September, and December at Andrews Chapel Fellowship Hall at 6 p.m. Everyone is cordially invited and encouraged to attend. Y’all come!
