Union Square News
Ruby Johnson
Union Square’s Neighborhood Watch meeting is Monday, August 4, at 6 p.m. Everyone should try to come and learn what is happening in the neighborhood lately.
There is a lot going on which you might not be aware of, and you need to know for your own purpose, so come on out.
Homegoing service for Mr. Edward Leon Gilbert was really nice, and “Leon” as everyone called him deserved it. He was a nice person to everyone, and his pastor, Jessie H. Scott Jr., let it be known while doing Leon’s eulogy.
Pastor Scott said he was not preaching; he was doing Leon’s eulogy, and there is a difference. Leon’s eulogy preached itself. Pastor Scott just echoed it, and he did an awesome job.
Pastor Scott is also a praising preacher. He blessed me so much. We need more of that in the pulpit these days.
People need to see the preachers praise God so they will feel free to praise. Some of these older preachers won’t praise because they are stuck in tradition or it’s an ego thing. But these young preachers are not playing and care less what people think about them praising God.
It helped build the spirit in the service. “Try the spirit by the Spirit.” God said He would do just what Young Scott did on Friday. “Pour out His Spirit on the young ones, too.” I am proud of how God is using these young preachers today.
The Shiloh Spirituals honored Mr. Gilbert’s homegoing with wonderful music that blessed the family and everyone else.
Leon will be missed at the Rockford Senior Citizen Center, where he worked faithfully and delivered food to the homebound.
Mt. Nebo Church will also miss him where he served on the deacon board. Mt. Nebo might be a small church; however, when it comes to serving good food and plenty of it, it is huge!
The plates were already prepared. When I opened it I could not believe my eyes, three and four different kinds of meat and vegetables on one plate, etc.
It was a wonderful homegoing. Prayers continue to go out to the Gilbert family and all who are mourning the loss of loved ones. Let’s continue to pray for Madison Hill during her trying time.
Happy birthday to Lena Johnston, Ran Wilson and to all July babies and early August babies, Jonah Schmidt and my son Jason Johnson.
I enjoyed Mrs. Jennifer Williamson’s column last week, July 25. I totally agree concerning the days of old potentials and young folks.
Many thanks to Pastor Jeff Fuller for all that he and Lady Tina do for people and this community and for a nice “shout out” to Ruby Johnson for working for the Lord, praying for others, etc.
The Fullers will get their crown in heaven one day because they are truly God’s servants. I will never forget how they prayed for me in the street one day, and God answered me right away. (Smile.)
“God never sees you in the flesh. He sees you in the spirit.”
