The annual Career Tech Education, or CTE, awards luncheon welcomed attendees to the luncheon with a “Year in Review” presentation.
Career Tech Center Director Hester Hamby welcomed guests and students to the annual event. Thank you to Tal East from the Lake Martin Area Economic Development Alliance Board of Directors for providing the keynote address. Each of the CTE program instructors then presented awards to their students, including those who earned certifications.
Deborah Phillips, Jobs for Alabama Graduates (JAG) instructor, presented awards to JAG students, and Lisa Worley, Educators in Training instructor, presented awards to her students.
Brett Thomas, Business Information Technology instructor, awarded Microsoft certifications and Adobe certifications to 26 students and Fiber Optic certifications to seven students.
Jarrod Washington, Automotive Services Technology instructor, led 19 students in earning their Asphalt Roller, Skid Steer and/or Bulldozer certifications.
Melissa Robinson-Pruitt, Health Science instructor, awarded five Community Health Worker certifications to her students.
In addition, Completer status awards were presented to students who completed a sequence of three courses in a career pathway with a grade of 70 or higher.
For the automotive program, Elijah Thornton and Matthew Shone received awards. For Educators in Training program, Kelsey McLaughlin, Reagan Cardwell, Zy Edwards, and Tara Halsey received awards. For the Business Information Technology program, Torrence Kelley, Samarria Owens and Matthew Garrett received awards.
Thank you, also, to Michael Lovett from Central Alabama Community College who was on hand to celebrate with those students who earned CACC credits simultaneously as they are completing their CTE coursework at the Coosa County Career Tech Center.
A highlight of the luncheon was students being presented with job offers from businesses who interviewed our students during our hiring day in April.
Madix offered jobs to Myrakel Coleman, Dylan Calhoun and Taniyah Riley. Prime Management Healthcare made job offers to Meori Smith, Elizabeth “Dawn” Moore, Taniyah Riley, Kelsey Sizemore, Danisha Webster, and Aniya Horton. SAFE made job offers for co-teachers at CES STEM Camp to Re’Niyah Gibbs, Roderick Graham, Taniyah Riley, AZ Sears, and Amari Dawson. The Lake Martin Trailblazers made job offers to Ruby Burks and Caden Miller. The Alabama Department of Transportation made a job offer to Rodrigo Xool. Jacob’s Ladder made a job offer to Ruby Burks.
In addition, SAFE made offers to Reese Lee, Queen Ballard, Emma Jones, Makayla Murray, Katie Meeks, Aniya Horton, Taniyah Riley, Kelsey Sizemore, Meori Smith, Adrianna Walker, and Rachel Reams to earn their Certified Nursing Assistant credentials this summer at no cost to the students.
Our CTE programs had a lot to celebrate thanks to the collaborative efforts of teachers, students and community business partners.
