The Central Cougars opening game against the Fayetteville Wolves at Fayetteville gave the Cougars a win to start off their season.
The Cougars went into halftime with a score of 6 to 6 after Keshaun Willingham scored a touchdown with a 12-yard pass from quarterback Waylon Chapman Allen.
The score was tied again at 12 to 12 going into the fourth quarter after Jaquez Parker scored a touchdown with a 25-yard pass thrown by Chapman Allen.
The Cougars turned up the heat with six minutes left in the game when Willingham brought the score to 18-12 after scoring his second touchdown with a pass from Chapman Allen again.
The Cougars’ strong defense kept the wolves at bay, but the Cougars sealed the deal in the last minute of the game when a tackle by Jaqualon Kelly brought a fumble by the Wolves, which was recovered by Lathan Spradley, turning over possession of the ball to the Cougars.
The Cougars also showed strength in their running backs, Zaccai Lauderdale and Braylon Murray, who handed off three and four first downs respectively.
Kudos to the band who performed in the stands, keeping the energy high, as well as performing three songs for the half-time show, and the cheer squad who kept the crowd and team pumped up.
