If the spring jamboree game is any indication, Central football is going to fill Keith Bullard Stadium this fall as the football program shows continual signs of strengthening.
The spring game pitted 2A Central against 3A Childersburg with a score of 14-14 for the varsity squad. Head varsity football coach Daniel Flowers said, “It was a great game; the defense had three turnovers, with Jay Wilson, Kenyon Richardson and Lathan Spradley all earning interceptions.”
Issac Lee and JJ Brimer earned five tackles each, with Issac earning a goal line stop. Javon Peterson Thomas and Ke’Shaun Willingham had a strong showing on offense earning the Cougars two touchdowns.
The junior varsity team also tied up against Childersburg with a score of 7-7. Junior varsity head coach, Dr. Conkle said, “We played well, and it was a good opportunity to learn what we need to work on; everybody had a chance to play and show their skill set.”
Lathan Spradley stood out with a 30-yard run. Demerius Davis also showed promise as the starting quarterback, as well as catching a pass as receiver.
Central Coosa fans can be on the lookout for the fall football schedule, which will be coming soon.
