Central High School announces Students of the Month

Twelfth grader Eli Thornton is the son of Celeste and Travis Thornton. Eli is a member of the Richville community and attends Providence Baptist Church. According to his teachers, Eli has good attendance and is always on time. He is willing to help his peers and has a great sense of humor. Upon graduation, Eli plans to join the U.S. Air Force. In the Air Force, he plans to work in Cyber Warfare Operations. In this field, Eli would have to launch both offensive and defensive hacking attacks. After leaving the Air Force, he plans on following the same career path in the private sector. Eli added, “I plan on leaving Alabama, but will eventually come back.” Congratulations, Eli.

Eleventh grader Lamiya Harrison is the daughter of Temekia Hill and Lamar Harrison. She is a member of the Goodwater community and attends Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. Her favorite subject is English. She says, “Mr. Moon made me love it even more.” Lamiya is a member of the Student Government Association and Key Club and serves as the secretary for the Future Career and Community Leaders of America club. Additionally, she is a Central High School cheerleader and basketball player. Upon graduation, she plans to serve eight years in the Air Force, receive her Bachelor of Science in nursing and become a NICU nurse. Currently, she is trying to increase her clientele for her hair business. She is also working on starting her own clothing brand. Congratulations, Lamiya.

Tenth grader A’Zerrihunna Sears is the daughter of Latasha Belyue and Cedric Sears. She is a member of the Rockford community. Her favorite subject is math. She says, “I was always able to understand it better than any other subject.” A’Zerrihunna is very involved in a variety of activities. She stepped up to help her SkillsUSA members during the state competition and contributed to her team’s third place finish. A’Zerrihunna is a member of the CHS softball and volleyball teams and the Student Government Association. Outside of school she enjoys swimming and shopping. After graduating, she plans to attend college to earn a degree in nursing. She would like to have a career in the NICU unit. She also has an interest in cosmetology and would one day like to explore that in terms of business ownership. Congratulations, A’Zerrihunna.

Ninth grader Jeffery Yates is the son of Justine and Chris Clark. According to teachers, Jeffery is always kind to classmates and volunteers to help teachers and staff when he sees help is needed. His favorite subject is history, because Mrs. Stover makes learning fun. Jeffery is a member of the Central High School band. He has played the saxophone for the past three years. Upon graduation, he plans to obtain his HVAC technician certification and start his own business. Congratulations, Jeffery.

Eighth grader Franchesca Ocana is the daughter of Cynthia and Ricardo Ocana. She resides in the Equality community and is a member of Mignon Baptist Church. Franchesca is very respectful, hardworking and caring. She takes her studies very seriously. She is always on time for class and is always prepared. She is truly a joy to teach. She is willing to help her classmates at a moment’s notice. Franchesca’s favorite subject is math. She states, “Ms. Belyeu is a great teacher, math is fun to learn, and it’s pretty easy.” In the future, she plans to attend Auburn University. She then plans to attend Birmingham School of Law and become an Assistant District Attorney. Congratulations, Franchesca.

Seventh grader Brihanna Mejia is the daughter of Loni LeAnne Gothard. Brihanna is a recent transfer student but fits in very well at Central High. She takes her work very seriously and is also very polite. Her favorite subjects are civics and geography because they are extremely interesting. She hopes to visit historic places one day. Brihanna is a proud member of the Central High School band. In the future, she hopes to become a lawyer. Congratulations, Brihanna!
