Equality & NIxburg News
Jennifer Williamson
We have had some cooler spring temperatures. Actually, it is quite nice for me, and I can do more outside work in cooler temperatures.
I still have not finished the fence move; so many other projects that have popped up. One is planting all the plants that didn’t sell at Jenny’s General into my garden, so they didn’t go to waste, and cleaning up the yard and cleaning out the barn.
Another change is that we decided it was time my husband got back into equines, and the family drove up to Kentucky to pick up a beautiful filly, very dark color with no markings. She is not just a project, but his therapy. Many organizations use horses in therapy from children to adults, and the VA also supports horse therapy. And when I saw Rodger on the neighbor’s horse when he was caring for them a few weeks ago I knew this would be the best route for him and his PTSD. So now we have a horse at the farm.
We are still dealing with a predator; it got another nesting turkey. The neighbor across the road said something has been around their place setting off security lights and upsetting their pets that were on the enclosed porch. I am thinking it is a raccoon; however, no matter how I bait the traps we have not yet captured the little terrorist. I will keep trying; maybe some peanut butter on the chicken nuggets with some cat food added in would do the trick?
Once again, the EVFD will be selling butts/ribs for Memorial Day weekend this month. Reserve yours today by contacting Jackie at 256-7861169 or Jean at 256-537-1884. Call today because EVFD has sold out in the last few years, and as you know, it’s really good! I have ordered mine and can’t wait to get it.
Last week’s First Saturday went very well from what I saw. Dave Dial has made a nice little cooking and seating area out of the third bay, and there was some nice furniture, some that I acquired, in the other two bays. Also, in the first bay the ladies were set up with all their baked goods that were up for sale.
I do hope you join next month in supporting our volunteer fire department. It starts at 8 a.m. and closes at 1 p.m. Come early for breakfast and return for lunch. Either way you won’t be disappointed with the fellowship and support of our community.
Equality Neighborhood Watch meeting is Thursday, May 22. Bring a dish to pass or a donation for the meal we all know Dave Dial will be making for us all. It is time to hear from the Sheriff’s Office, volunteer fire department and other local groups and activities.
Vintage Vibe will be playing at Coosa Live this month on Friday, May 23, from 7 to 9. We are hoping for another great crowd to show up and enjoy some live music. This band has had a number of gigs around the area with great success, so come on out and enjoy an evening supporting a local business and local band.
I know many get home after a long work week and find it hard to leave the house again, but a short drive to just show your support would mean a lot for us, and you don’t have to stay the whole event. Thank you for your support.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
