Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
Last column for November! Wow, this year is almost gone. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. I had my family Thanksgiving on Sunday before, continuing Mama’s tradition.
This is a busy weekend for me every year, but I wouldn’t change it for anything. So, last Sunday was my Thanksgiving. On Thanksgiving Day, I usually go to Triple R and enjoy their Thanksgiving lunch with some of my family. Then, Black Friday is all day shopping with my girls. On Saturday, there is the Iron Bowl game with any of my family that wants to come watch or just eat chili and soup and all the fixings. Then on Sunday, I host the Ward Family get-together. Everyone brings a dish or two, and I set up tables all over the house, on the porch and back deck (depending on weather). Usually this includes not only the brothers and sisters and their families, but extended family and friends, ending up with anywhere from about 60 to 80 or more! Full house, but thankful for this opportunity to visit with everyone.
Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the Richville Volunteer Fire Department Bingo next Saturday, December 7, at 6:30 p.m. We always have a good time of fellowship and fun. They sell concessions, also.
Also, on that date, the Richville Neighborhood Watch will be sponsoring a Chili Cook-Off and bake sale. The winner will be determined by popular vote and announced at 2 p.m. They will receive $100 prize money. Everyone is invited to come out!
To sample the chili and vote, tickets are $1 per vote. Multiple tickets may be purchased. Entry fee is $20. Participants must have their chili at the fire department by 12:00, along with a list of ingredients. If you wish to enter, please contact either Pinky Reichert at 205-616-3581 or Ron Garrison at 256-935-0693.
There will also be a bake sale with a variety of baked goods from cakes, breads and other goodies. If you wish to donate baked goods, please contact Pinky or Ron at the above numbers. The proceeds from the bake sale will be used to sponsor a family for Christmas. Baked goods for sale should be at the fire department by 12:00.
This is the last week for my thanksgiving Bible verses so I hope I haven’t shared this before, but if so, it needed to be repeated. Second Corinthians 9:11 reads, “You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.”
God is the ultimate provider, but by our giving we participate in what God is doing. By doing that this verse says that God will bless us in return. We aren’t giving for financial reward, but that good feeling you get when you do something good or nice for someone else. That’s God’s love in action!
Please be in prayer for all those that are sick in our community. But also, think about giving someone a call just to say hello; it will make a difference in their day. Many times, when we go out to spread blessings to others, it’s us that gets the blessing.
Organizations in the area, as well as churches, I need your events! If your family has some news or an event to share, please contact me. I would prefer text at 334-414-7147 or emails to wardgrand6@gmail.com, but phone calls will be fine, too. If you don’t get me when you call, be sure to leave a message.
