Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
Hard to believe November is almost over and Christmas is less than five weeks away. Thanksgiving is next week! So, I want to wish everyone a happy and safe Thanksgiving. School will be out all next week for Thanksgiving holiday.
Also, next Friday is “Black Friday” with all the sales; however, it’s changed over the years with now many stores having “Black Friday” sales starting early and online. I can remember the excitement of going to Walmart with my daughters and sometimes my mom early on that Friday morning.
We would scope out where the items were located that we were interested in and station each one of us at different spots or get in the line for the electronics. Then, when the time came, the workers would cut through the plastic wrap and people would start to grab the items. So much excitement to see if you could get the items! Then it was on to another store, and another!
We always go to Montgomery and take a lunch break at Red Lobster. We still go, but the excitement is not as high as it was!
Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the next Richville Volunteer Fire Department Bingo on Saturday, December 7, at 6:30 p.m. We always have a good time of fellowship and fun. They sell concessions, also.
Also, on that date, the Richville Neighborhood Watch will be sponsoring a Chili Cook-Off and bake sale. The winner will be determined by popular vote and announced at 2 p.m. They will receive $100 prize money. Everyone is invited to come out!
To sample the chili and vote, tickets are $1 per vote. Multiple tickets may be purchased. Entry fee is $20. Participants must have their chili at the fire department by 12:00, along with a list of ingredients. If you wish to enter, please contact either Pinky Reichert at 205-616-3581 or Ron Garrison at 256-935-0693.
There will also be a bake sale with a variety of baked goods from cakes, breads and other goodies. If you wish to donate baked goods, please contact Pinky or Ron at the above numbers. The proceeds from the bake sale will be used to sponsor a family for Christmas. Baked goods for sale should be at the fire department by 12:00.
My Bible verses continue to be about thanksgiving, so this week the passage comes from Hebrews 12: 28-29. It reads, “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.”
The kingdom of God endures forever; what a blessing to know that it will never end. Earthly things can be destroyed as we just recently saw with the damage from the hurricanes. But as Christians, we have something that can never be destroyed. The kingdom of God is unshakable or indestructible! We should give thanks to God for our salvation that allows us to experience God’s love.
Please be in prayer for all those that are sick in our community. But also, think about giving someone a call just to say hello; it will make a difference in their day. Many times, when we go out to spread blessings to others, it’s us that gets the blessing.
