Equality & NIxburg News
Jennifer Williamson
The open house and housewarming at the Old Penton place was lovely, and the house is beautiful. It is nice knowing that the history of the house is honored, but updated with some modern amenities so the neighbors will enjoy living in Equality for years to come.
And as a bit of motivation, not that I am trying to compete because quite frankly there is no competition with the Old Penton place, I did get the crown molding up in the front entryway. I have also decided that a fresh coat of paint in the kitchen will satisfy me until we are able to remodel it, which won’t be for years at this point.
In other news on the homestead, we did have a raccoon caught in the trap, then the next day an opossum with a second opossum seen running from the yard. We figure the opossums are nesting in the neighbor’s carport since she had said she had some there before she moved in with her granddaughter, and that was the direction the one ran.
I am still setting the trap as I am still missing chickens and ducks. And a black pig was located north on Highway 9, but happy to say it was not ours as both are in the barn until I can get them loaded onto the trailer and taken to auction. Anyone interested in processing a lard pig, just let me know and you can have them.
Jenny’s General has changed the store hours. Monday through Wednesday is by appointment. Thursday and Friday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. They have a nice selection of The General’s Hot Sauce in stock. The General is a veteran owned, veteran hire, dealing with American farmers business who bottle their hot sauce in hand grenade shaped bottles. Jenny’s still has a large range of spices, herbs and loose leaf teas, essential oils, jams, jellies, and sauces.
The Equality Volunteer Fire Department (EVFD) is still looking for more volunteers to support their efforts in keeping us all safe. They need as much involvement as they can get so again, please come and support your community by volunteering your time at a great organization. Also, you are free to join the training on the first and third Mondays at 6:30 p.m. even if just to watch and find out more about what EVFD has going on.
Coosa County Live has karaoke tonight, Friday, November 15, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. While it is not mandatory, you are encouraged to bring a dish of shareable food for our “Potluck,” and if you can afford to drop something into the donation jar for the music, it helps keep the lights on. Coosa Live provides free coffee, iced tea, water, and fresh-popped popcorn, as well as some of the potluck offerings.
Due to the upcoming holiday season Equality Neighborhood Watch for November and December are being combined to one meeting on December 5 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Please join us for a community gathering with food, safety tips, sheriff’s updates, and socializing with our neighbors.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
