#WhyApply Day is sponsored by the American College Application Campaign (ACAC), an initiative of ACT’s Center for Equity in Learning.
The website, equityinlearning.act.org/acac/resources/why-apply, states, “To celebrate the nearly 467,000 students who will participate in these application events, #WhyApply Day kicks off the application season and provides encouragement for the students. Though state campaigns and local events will run from September through December, the goal of #WhyApply Day is to kick off the season and to utilize social media to encourage students as they begin the application process.”
Friday, September 20, was designated by ACAC as #WhyApply Day. The theme for the day at Central High School was “Cougars Choose a Brighter Future.” Everyone was encouraged to wear their college gear. Teachers and staff were encouraged to share why they believe students should apply to college and/or why they applied to college, using the hashtag #WhyApply. Pictured is principal Brandi Lee who got into the spirit of the day.
Central High School teachers were also encouraged to decorate their classroom door representing the college(s) and/or university or universities they attended. Doors were judged and prizes awarded for first, second and third place. Congratulations to Mrs. Hughes and Mrs. Strickland, pictured with their first place door. Each teacher participating in the door contest also received a reward.
Alabama Goes to College Week is October 7-11, 2024.
Thank you to Central High School counselor Misty Wade for coordinating this fun event to encourage and motivate our students to apply to and attend college.
