Ashland woman dies in Tallapoosa County crash

A single-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 11:12 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, has claimed the life of an Ashland woman.
Martha K. Powell, 70, was fatally injured when the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado pickup she was a passenger in left the roadway and struck a concrete culvert. Martha Powell was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle, Bradley W. Powell; 34, also of Ashland; was transported to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery for treatment.
The crash occurred on Alabama Highway 63 near the 37-mile marker, approximately five miles north of Alexander City, in Tallapoosa County.
Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
