An Equality man has been arrested following the stabbing of a Wetumpka man that occurred last week.
Sheriff Michael Howell reported that last Tuesday, January 24, his office was contacted by Russell Medical Center in Alexander City stating that they had a victim in the emergency room who had been stabbed multiple times.
Investigators were dispatched to the emergency room and began conducting an investigation into the stabbing. There they interviewed the victim, 33-year-old Corey Kilpatrick of Wetumpka, who was later transferred to UAB Hospital.
Kilpatrick told investigators that William Michael Smith, 31 years old of Equality, had stabbed him multiple times and that the stabbing occurred on County Road 98 in the Equality community.
Investigators proceeded to go to that location and processed the scene, even locating the weapon used.
Howell stated that because of Kilpatrick being stabbed multiple times and sustaining life-threatening injuries they charged Smith with attempted murder.
On January 25, Smith was arrested on that charge. His bond was set at $30,000, and as of press time he remained in custody at the Coosa County Jail awaiting trial.
Anyone who observes or suspects illegal activity is encouraged to report it to the Coosa County Sheriff’s Office at 256-377-4922 or online at www.coosacountyso.org. Anonymous tips are also welcome.
