An Alexander City man has been arrested for murder following the fatal shooting of Robin Braswell of Goodwater.
As reported in the January 20 edition, the Sheriff’s Office initially began conducting a death investigation after being contacted by the Goodwater Police Department in reference to Braswell being shot around the 1000 block of County Road 52 on January 14.
Braswell, 31 years old, was pronounced deceased at Russell Medical Center in Alexander City. Following his death, Sheriff Michael Howell stated that they were working a death investigation involving “the circumstances surrounding his death.”
Since that time, however, 21-year-old Lei-Keston Demicha Ford has been arrested and charged with murder in the case.
When asked about the case shifting from a death investigation to a homicide investigation, Howell said that there were “some inconsistencies dealing with the statements.”
Howell explained that they did more background on the case and investigated further, as well as interviewed the suspect.
After looking at all of the evidence, as well as Ford’s statement, Howell said they contacted the district attorney’s office and pursued the charge of murder.
Ford was arrested on January 21, exactly one week after Braswell was shot in the chest and died. Ford’s bond was set at $50,000, and he was released on bond on January 25 to await trial.
