The Coosa County Sheriff’s Office is currently conducting a death investigation following the shooting of a Goodwater man.
However, details are limited as the investigation remains ongoing, and it cannot be stated that this is the first homicide in Coosa County this year as Sheriff Michael Howell did not confirm it was a homicide. Instead, he said that his office is “working a death investigation.”
Howell said that at about 2 a.m. on Saturday, January 14, the Sheriff’s Office was contacted by Goodwater Police Department in reference to an individual who had been shot around the 1000 block of County Road 152.
Deputies, investigators and Howell responded to the scene. Howell said that the victim, 31-year-old Robin Braswell, was pronounced deceased at Russell Medical Center in Alexander City.
Following Braswell’s death, Howell said they are now working an investigation involving “the circumstances surrounding his death.” He added that they do have an individual that has been questioned.
However, he said they are still investigating all aspects of this case. He asked that if anyone in the general public has any information regarding the death of Braswell to please contact the Sheriff’s Office at 256-377-4922.
Howell stated that Braswell’s body has been sent to the Department of Forensic Sciences for autopsy, as well, and they are waiting for the results of that autopsy.
Wright’s Funeral Home of Alexander City is overseeing the arrangements for Braswell. Per the family’s request there will not be a public visitation.
A Celebration of Life service for him will be held Monday, January 23, at 2 p.m. at the Goodwater High School auditorium. Burial will immediately follow at Macedonia Memorial Gardens in Goodwater.
