Work is continuing to progress on the Coosa County Animal Shelter being a reality, with the shelter currently anticipated to open early next month.
Dennis Hill, operations manager and chair of the shelter’s Board of Directors, provided an update on work done at the facility in Stewartville so far, as well as work remaining to be done.
Hill shared that the building now has electrical and plumbing work complete. He said that the old restrooms were rotten because of termite and water damage. As such, the old restrooms were torn off, and a new restroom was installed.
This week he said that they were completing the metal roof for the facility, with the roof being installed by Adam Thornton, Lucky Thornton and Brian Castleberry. Additionally, he said that a privacy fence is being completed with help from volunteer Johnny White.
The outside of the building is being spray painted by Jesse Leonard. This weekend Hill said that they also plan to begin laying blocks for the kennels, and students will also assist with painting.
Currently the shelter has a projected open date of January 7, with work being made towards the final stages to have it ready to open to the public.
The animal shelter currently also has T-shirts available to help raise funds for its operation and renovations.
T-shirts currently available are in sizes large through 2XL and in two colors, coral and gray. Shirts are $20 each for large and extra-large and $22 for 2XL.
The front of the shirts have the Coosa County Animal Shelter name and logo, while the back of the shirts read, “Rescued is my favorite breed.”
For information on purchasing a shirt, donating to the shelter, or volunteering to assist with ongoing efforts, contact the shelter at 256-391-7192 or coosacountyanimalshelter41@gmail.com.
