Ganny’s Babies, a family childcare group home in Goodwater, was recently honored while recognizing October as Head Start Awareness Month.
On Tuesday, October 18, Goodwater Police Chief Corey Shaw presented a Head Start Proclamation signed by Mayor Lonnie Caldwell to Valory Thomas, provider at Ganny’s Babies. Kimberly Hamilton, family and community engagement specialist at Auburn University Early Head Start Program, was also present for the event.
Hamilton explained that Ganny’s Babies has been providing childcare services since 2015 and is 3-star quality rated.
October is a time set aside to celebrate Head Start Awareness Month. In 1982 President Ronald Reagan made a proclamation to help bring awareness to the Head Start program.
Hamilton shared that 30 years after the proclamation, Reagan’s words still inspire, “The National Head Start Program has helped over eight million low-income pre-school children and their families. In so doing, it has earned recognition and support for its success in early childhood education and development.”
Auburn University Early Head Start Program is a statewide collaborative partnership between Auburn EHS-CCP and family childcare providers. The EHC-CCP family childcare home providers are located throughout the state.
The program is sponsored by Alabama Department of Human Resources through the Federal Administration for Children and Families. The program serves 222 eligible children from birth up to age 3 in licensed family childcare settings.
The local family childcare group home, Ganny’s Babies, is located at 178 Coosa County Road 66, Goodwater.
