The restoration on Dark’s Dairy facsimile of a quart of milk has begun as of yesterday.
The cinder block milk carton, a large milk carton-shaped block structure, is located along U.S. Highway 231 in Stewartville. A landmark recognized by many passing through, it marks the location of Dark’s Dairy.
Dark’s opened about 1946 by Lillian and Ruben Dark. John Forbus is looking to have the milk carton restored by January 2023.
The milk carton will be restored to one of Dark’s Dairy’s original paint schemes and illuminated at night using solar lighting.
“I look forward to people enjoying it after the restoration,” Forbus stated.
