Special to the News
The Goodwater Yellow Jackets 10U team defeated the Alexander City Wildcats 10U last Saturday 32-6 during their inaugural homecoming game. Star quarterback Waylon Allen had four rushing touchdowns and two completed passes.
The 10U Yellow Jackets will play in the championship game on Saturday, November 5, at 1 p.m. in Winterboro seeded as the number one team in the league. The 10U team finished off the regular season undefeated.
The 11- and 12-year-old Yellow Jackets also play on Saturday in Winterboro and are seeded as the number two team. The 11- and 12-year-old team finished with only two losses.
This is only the third year of football for the Yellow Jackets, which is the Goodwater Parks and Rec’s Youth League, and the coaches hope to continue to grow. While winning is most certainly fun and a goal for the coaches, it’s not the main goal. Every single coach on the staff will tell you it’s about teaching these kids the core values of life and discipline at a young age.
The Yellow Jackets are led by Head Coach Malcon Strong and assisted by coaches James Dawson, Deon Gaddis, Karleyun Lauderdale, Stephon Leonard, Eric Pouncey, and Allen. Come out and support our Yellow Jackets tomorrow, where we hope both teams will bring home the championship in Winterboro.
