The Central Gym was full of laughter, cheers and applause as hundreds of Coosa Countians came out to enjoy the opening ceremonies and first games of the Upward youth sports ministry. The Game Day Host Church was Weogufka Family Worship Center with Pastor Alverson providing the opening prayer and Sister Tabitha Hyatt singing the national anthem. Pastor Alverson also provided the half-time devotion which was centered around the theme of hope. Volunteer coaches, financial sponsors, community partners, and church partners were recognized for their support in starting the first county-wide youth sports program in years. Games are played every Saturday at the Central Gym at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Admission is free, but concessions are sold to help fund the league. Questions regarding the league can be sent via text to Debi Stover at 256-401-3281.
