Equality & Nixburg News
Jennifer Williamson
Jenny’s General Store is getting a little renovation done on the inside, so expect some clutter and dust as we updo the ceiling and change some lighting.
Also, we will be dividing the old performing arts center side of the building into more retail space and making my office a bit more private. I have also talked with the manager at Quality Food Mart to make our business more synergistic and not compete with each other.
I think working together we can increase foot traffic in town, which will benefit the whole community, as well as our individual businesses.
At the homestead we had a bit of a plumbing issue; a small one, but still needed to be addressed. So while getting our annual tags updated we stopped into Enoch’s Hardware Bait and Tackle LLC. to pick up the plumbing parts we needed.
What a fantastic place to shop, not on the main highway so you might have missed it, and a local business we will be returning to for many of our hardware needs! Stop in and check them out next time you are in Rockford; you never know what you will find that you really do need.
I would still like to know if the business building in Nixburg is being cleaned up for a new small business to open up. Anyone know? Do you have the scoop on it you want to share? If it is a new small local business, I would love to support them.
On a personal note, I want to say how proud I am of my husband. He has such patience with me and supports my wild independent nature. He helps where he can despite his disabilities. For those that see me do so much and ask why he isn’t doing things along with me, that is my choice and I have always been a doer, and I over book myself.
I never signed him up for many of my projects, I let him know what I would like to do, and I accept his support where he can give it. He spends most of his time helping to care for our grandchildren who are 6 years old and 10 months, which to me is the highest priority.
Community activities that are available in the Equality and Nixburg area:
- Drive Through Prayer at Equality Methodist Church every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the church. If you have a prayer need you can drive up to the church, stay in your car, and someone will come out and pray with and for you.
- The Equality quilting group meets every Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jenny’s General Store. We do more than quilt; some embroider, crochet and other needle arts. And yes, we still meet every week!
- Elaine Rutledge of Nixburg hosts Rummikub at the Alexander City Senior Center in the Sportplex every Friday starting at 10 a.m.
- Equality Neighborhood Watch meeting on the fourth Thursday of every month.
- Equality Volunteer Fire Department Fundraiser on the first Saturday of every month.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-794-3801 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
