Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
Congratulations to the Cougars on their win 44–14 over Horseshoe Bend! Great job!
They are on the road this week playing Lafayette. Good luck! Bring us home another win.
I didn’t have a column last week because I was on a cruise without internet. I don’t have any more trips planned for a while so maybe I won’t miss any more weeks.
It was a change in temperature for sure! After highs in the 80s and lows in the upper 70s, it was chilly and windy at the port. Then Monday morning, I had to turn on my heat.
However, it has warmed up over the week, and we are supposed to get rain late Saturday night and early Sunday morning. We sure need it.
Saturday is Halloween, and Rockford has its annual Trick or Treat along Main Street and in the park at the corner of Nixburg Road and Jackson Street from 6-8 p.m. Fun for the whole family!
Trick or treat, hayrides, giveaways, music, and games. Parking available at the Event Center!
The Poppells have an expanded haunted tunnel north of the 4-way stop at the intersection of highways 231 and 22. Providence Baptist Church will be handing out treat bags at Pastor Andy and Ms. Ragan’s house just past the Poppell’s.
So make plans to come out and enjoy the night. The rain is forecast for later that night.
Don’t forget Saturday night we will “fall back” to standard time! If you still have clocks that don’t automatically change, be sure you set them back one hour before you go to bed or you’ll be late.
Providence Baptist Church will honor our pastor and his wife with Pastor Appreciation Day this Sunday, November 1. We will share a fellowship meal after the service. The church will provide the meat. So, bring a dish and enjoy the fellowship.
Our prayer list at church is long with needs. It is comforting when a name can be removed because their health or situation has improved. However, many on the list are facing terminal illness so their outcome will be sad.
So, my Bible verse this week is for comfort and strength for them and their families. Psalm 23:4 reads, “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
This is just one verse out of the Psalm that is known as “the Shepherd’s Psalm.” The entire passage represents God’s complete care and protection for humanity, as well as safety and trust in both peaceful and difficult times.
“The darkest valley” is a metaphor for severe trials or life crises. It is not saying that we will necessarily escape the dark valley, but know that God is with us regardless of the outcome.
It’s difficult to watch a loved one face death and even harder once they have died. However, God will be with us through it all.
Pray for those that have lost loved ones in our community or that are ill. Remember the shut-ins in our community, as well. They don’t just need our prayers, but can benefit from visits, also, even if it’s just a phone call.
