My grandson, Chesley, and John Harris

Union Square News

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Let’s pray, cut our hair, and go pink.
We honor, pray and give respect to everyone who has encountered breast cancer. Let’s honor them with a touch of pink this month!
While thinking of the goodness of God, there are certain people who come to mind, and John and Laura Harris are two of them. I thank God for these lovely people for many reasons; one being that they gave my grandson, Chesley, his first job when he first got his working papers at 14 years old, and today Chesley is still a hard working boy/man at 36 years of age.
John taught Chesley so much about work in the real world. Chesley became a very brave soldier working with the Harrises. He learned a lot helping with the Harrises’ fur babies, especially the goats, taking them places and taking good care of them.
Chesley made me laugh many times, talking about how nervous he was when he first saw John castrate one of the male goats, but eventually he became that bold and brave Chesley. I was proud of my boy (Chesley).
John even taught him how to drive certain types of vehicles, how to bush hog and much more for a young man to learn.
I will always be grateful for John and Laura Harris, and Chesley is, as well. He loves them, as his other grandparents (smile).
I want to commend our neighbor Mrs. Cynthia Matthew, who stands out. She is a great and faithful usher at Rockford First Baptist Church, always willing to work and be the best doorkeeper for the church. We love you, Cynthia.
Happy birthday to all October born.
Prayers go out to all cancer victims.
