Equality Neighborhood Watch meeting went well last week. Twenty-six people attended, and we heard from Deputy Kelley from the sheriff’s report.
We had food, fellowship and the fire department report. Amazingly there were no calls in July! July, the height of summer activity and vacations and no emergencies that involved the fire department. Either everyone went out of town or folks are being safer with their BBQ cookouts and water fun.
First Saturday is tomorrow and a great way to show your support for both the community and the Equality Volunteer Fire Department. The fundraiser starts with breakfast at 8 a.m. for a donation, and plate lunches starting at 11. Bake sale and rummage sale are all day.
As for me, my son came over again and we got quite a bit of work done. I feel good about that. I haven’t had much time or strength to work in this heat and humidity to get trimming and weeding done, so he did some of that for me.
This weekend I hope to get more done with my daughter coming over. She is a hard worker, too, so I imagine I will have less of a burden on my plate than I have had in a while.
Jenny’s General Store still sells herbs, spices, essential oils, supplements, healthy drinks, cheap can soft drinks, and moving and packing supplies. U-Haul rentals have slowed down now that the trucks were rented for one-way moves out of state and waiting for some to be dropped off here by renters who may move into our area.
There are two trailers that were dropped off by families moving their kids into the area for the fall school year, so they are available.
Community activities that are available in Equality and Nixburg area:
- The Equality quilting group meets every Monday evening from 6 to 8 at Jenny’s General Store. We do more than quilt; some embroider, crochet and other needle arts. And yes, we still meet every week!
- Kendrick Memorial Baptist Church’s yard sale is held most Saturdays starting at 8 a.m. Address is 5152 Ala. Hwy. 9 in case you haven’t noticed it driving in Nixburg.
- Elaine Rutledge of Nixburg hosts Rummikub at the Alexander City Senior Center in the Sportplex every Friday starting at 10 a.m.
