September is here, but summer heat is still with us. Hopefully soon it will start to cool off.
Happy birthday to all those born this month, which includes three granddaughters, one grandson-in-law, one granddaughter-in-law, and one great-grandson. Wow, that’s a lot of birthdays in one month! Also, my mom was born this month, so missing celebrating her birthday.
Union Baptist Church had a well-attended homecoming. Everyone said it was great music, preaching and food. They thank everyone that helped with the event.
Don’t forget to be sure and get your name on the list for those delicious Boston butts. They usually sell all they are going to cook ahead of time. They are only $35 each and well worth it.
Pickup will be tomorrow morning, September 5, from 7 to 9 a.m. See any member of the fire department to place your order or contact me and I will see that you are added to the list.
If you fish, be sure to check out Providence Baptist Church’s 3rd Annual Bass Tournament on September 19. Registration that day begins at 4 a.m. with put in at safe daylight at Barrett’s Landing on Lake Mitchell. You may pre-register by mail by September 10 by mailing a check payable to the church (P.O. Box 65; Rockford, AL 35136) or by scanning the QR code on the fliers.
Entry fee is $110 per boat which includes big fish payout. Guaranteed $1,000 first place. Payout will be 1-in-7 after 10 boats (all proceeds to be paid out in winnings). Weigh-in is at 2 p.m. Call Wayne Ward at 334-467-7660 with any questions.
Then, on Sunday night at 6, Providence Baptist Church begins their revival with Rev. Rob Jackson as evangelist. He is director of the Office of Evangelism & Church Health with the Alabama State Board of Missions. It will continue Monday – Wednesday nights beginning at 6:30 p.m. On Wednesday night after services, finger foods and homemade ice cream will be served in the fellowship hall. All are welcome.
Several times in the last week I have read or heard a phrase that made me think about living. The phrase is “I’m still (or woke up) on the right side of dirt.” I think we all want to be on the right side of dirt!
But I thought about what the Bible says about living in the present. Matthew 6:34 reads, “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
The Bible encourages us to trust God for today and release anxiety about tomorrow. We as believers should find peace in the “now” rather than worry about what is to come or regret what happened in the past.
What is done is done, so we need to move forward. Also, while we need to plan for the future, we don’t need to worry about it before it happens. Trust God to take care of us as we focus on today’s challenges.
Pray for those that have lost loved ones in our community or that are ill. Remember the shut-ins in our community, as well. They don’t just need our prayers, but can benefit from visits, also, even if it’s just a phone call.
