Bethany Forbus returns to her hometown school where she graduated and started her teaching career as a first-grade teacher to use her decades of experience to train the next generation of educators.
Forbus’ Practices in Foundations classes, based out of the Coosa County Career Tech Center, recently visited Mrs. Alverson’s kindergarten class to observe a reading lesson. Alverson was reviewing letters the kindergartners had learned, and then she introduced the letter “F.”
The Foundations students observed her during her lesson and took detailed notes regarding teaching strategies she used, as well as classroom management techniques.
Forbus added, “Mrs. Alverson is the best of the best; I am thankful she welcomed my students to observe her teaching and management techniques.”
After the lesson the Foundations students debriefed their observational notes with Forbus, discussing the instructional strategies and management techniques that worked well for the kindergartners.
Forbus plans for the Foundations students to spend a lot of time participating in “hands on” learning at Central Elementary this year. One advantage of a small school system is we have the opportunity to easily collaborate between the elementary and high schools.
The Foundation students are looking forward to teaching lessons to the elementary students once they pass the observation stage of their program.
