Central High School tenth and eleventh grade students will get to watch history come to life this year with the new U. S. history instructor Grayson Harwell.
Harwell is a living historian with the reenactment group based from Harpersville, Voices of the Past. Harwell has been participating in the reenactment group for seven years.
Harwell aims to honor history by going beyond looking at photographs and paintings to experiencing it in person, which provides a better understanding of the past.
The Voices of the Past reenactment group portrays British Hessian soldiers every July 4 at the American Village in Montevallo.
Harwell brought some of that history to life for the students as he taught a lesson on the U.S. home front during World War I in his seaman costume.
